There are many definitions of fast fashion, but generally, fast fashion is defined as the design of most recent fashion trends. Fast fashion retailers, or sometimes can be called mass-market retailers, pursue the latest trend and improve the product designs gradually to keep the balance of people demands. Mostly fast fashion stores sell inexpensive product, for some people actually, and give many “beneficial aspect” when people spent their budget on it. Discounts by discounts given to make people obsessed to pay more for extra clothes.

Fast fashion retailers spend short time in manufacturing to produce brand new designs or reproduce the designs which already exist. Brainstorming, innovating, the process of creative and brand awareness are some of necessary aspects of short time mass-production and might impacts the quality improvements of fast fashions employees. The development of fast fashion industry experiencing great growth recently. Besides seeking for profit, some fast fashion companies put their focus on solving the global issues, such as environmental issue. Some companies started to produce their product with the environmentally friendly material, considering the increase of material consumption which difficult to recycle become the main issues nowadays.

However, fast fashion industries gave many drawbacks outweigh the advantages. Firstly, as a consequence of the pressure in short time production, fast fashion industries turn into the largest imitation or non-original commodities. Generally, the ideas that come up from the employees involve the ‘basic design’ or default fashion with plain model. Secondly, fast fashion industries harmed the environment a lot, yes a lot. For instance, for the production of 2 billion pairs of jeans every year, it wasted about 7,000 liters every year. The production of t-shirt takes 2,700 liters of water to make just one. If you don’t know the amount of the water, just imagine that 2,700 liters of water is an average person drinks over the course of 900 days. Moreover, many fashion products are needed to dye. The process of dyeing used about 1.7 million tons of various chemicals, which people don’t know if it’s hazardous or not. Thirdly, fast fashion industries put people on the high level of consumerism. Easy to reach, fairly low-cost, and release new design annually, increase the people feels of needs. Sooner or later, people purchase some clothes is not for daily needs, but they just buy it without knowing for what purpose or actually they don’t really need it. One of the biggest fast fashion retailers, starts with “Z”, release approximately 40,000 new designs every year and fill 300,000 units of clothes for their stock. In 2014, the average household spent an average $1,786 on apparel and related services. Fast fashion retailers grew 9.7 percent per years, fashion is big business, but sometimes not nice business.

Fast fashion may be the common trend recently with the newest design. Unfortunately, there are negative effects behind their lovely products. People should get to know more about the clothing that they used and being aware of its disadvantages.
